I am not great at chess, but I am not bad. In my twenties, I had a friend who gave me a proper introduction to the game. It was fascinating because I never cared too much for games that involved chance.
To me, this was more of a sport. Battles of strategies and mind against the other. Like so many, I started spending more time than I probably should have learning and playing.
There are lots of studies touting the mental benefits of chess and I have my own beliefs of how it improved certain aspects of my thinking.
After watching the movie, “Searching for Bobby Fisher,” I realized that I did not have any interest in improving myself to be the best possible chess player out there. My career was my focus,
But I still enjoyed the game not just for the sake of playing but because of the enjoyment. Like so many hobbies we get out of them the parts we enjoy.
I enjoy the look of a beautifully crafted chess set on my table. I look forward to sitting with a friend drinking good whiskey or wine and talking. Meeting new people at local events and building camaraderie. I still use an APP once in a while, but only for people I don’t still live locally to.
My point is I did not build this website to provide the best resource for you to become a grandmaster. On the contrary. There are plenty of websites out there for that. I may post a quiz for fun, but this site is for the enjoyment of Chess.
Whether it is competition items, local groups, furniture or how to organize your own meetup. I think we need to rebuild in-person communities and spending time with friends.
